Have you heard of Ron Rivest? Among other things, he's the "R" in "RSA"; the ubiquitous algorithm for public-key cryptography. RSA is the backbone of the internet. It is the "s" in "https".
"RSA was the first and is still the most widely-used algorithm for public key cryptography and it is used for thousands of applications from e-mail encryption to secure online purchasing." 1
Professor Rivest has been a faculty participant here at the Center since its founding and while it's no surprise that Ron Rivest was named to the National Inventors Hall of Fame we are tremendously delighted.
