Abstract

In this talk, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai will provide a modern theory of the immune system \u2013 an exemplar systems architecture resulting from CytoSolve \u2013 a platform for precision and personalized medicine enabling the development of engineering systems architectures and mechanistic models of large-scale biological systems, diseases, and bio-molecular processes. As the multi-trillion dollar pharmaceutical industry heads into peril with year-over-year increases in R&D expenditure without concomitant increases in FDA allowances for new molecules alongside escalating healthcare costs, CytoSolve offers a decentralized collaboratory or scalable integration of molecular pathway models for discovery of multi-combination therapeutics, safer, faster and cheaper. Dr. Ayyadurai will also share his journey to MIT and commercial successes of CytoSolve including FDA allowance for a multi-combination therapeutic for pancreatic cancer; use of CytoSolve by global pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and emerging biotech\u2019s such as Alnylam for accelerating drug development; discovery of nearly twenty new therapeutics and patent filings cross diverse indications; development of disease models for both major diseases such as Alzheimer\u2019s and rare diseases in orphan drug domains such as Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) and Hereditary Angioedema (HAE). He will also speak about the innovative research and development partnerships that CytoSolve\u2019s decentralized collaboratory framework has afforded for foundations, universities, and research centers.

About the Speaker

Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, PhD is the Chairman and CEO of Cytosolve, Inc. based in Cambridge, MA. He received his PhD in Biological Engineering from MIT. A Fulbright Scholar, and world-renowned systems scientist, Dr. Ayyadurai has started seven successful hi-tech and biotech companies. His research and innovations span the fields of computing, biology, and cybernetics. He is an author of over 10 books, has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Neuroscience, CELL Biophysical Journal, and IEEE.Dr.Ayyaduraihas delivered the MIT Presidential Fellows Distinguished Lecture, the ASCPT State of the Art Lecture, as well as hundreds of invited Keynote and Distinguishedlectures at institutions like NIH/NCATS, Harvard Medical School, FasterCures, Arthritis Foundation, Joslin Diabetes Center, Tufts Medical School, and UHN. He is the recipient of many national or international awardsincluding Lemelson-MIT Awards Finalist, First Outstanding Scientist/Technologist of Indian Origin (STIO), Westinghouse Science Talent Honors Award, and nominee for U.S. National Medal of Technology and Innovation. In 1982, the U.S. government awarded him the first U.S. Copyright for "Email."He has authored numerous op-ed pieces, and has been featured in major media including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fox News, and CBS.He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi and Eta Kappa Nu.
