Endocytosis is the vital process by which cells engulf nutrients and growth factors from their environment. We have recently reported a novel cellular regulatory circuit by which epsin, a protein involved in endocytosis, also controls several key cellular processes including cell division. In fact, abnormal epsin function leads to defects in cell proliferation and migration, a hallmark of cancer and developmental diseases. My presentation will provide a background on endocytosis and the role of epsin in the regulation of cell division and the onset of pathological states. Additionally, I will focus on how the synergism between cell biology and the theory of information will accelerate our understanding and the development of therapeutic approaches against cancer and genetic diseases.
