A strong case can be made for bridging information theoretic understandings with research in neuroscience and medicine, giving tangible advancements in biomedical applications such as dermal electronics, and brain-machine interactions that have potential to assist those with disabilities.

Dr. Rui Ma in Week 1 provides an introduction to the brain and basics of neuroscience within an information context. In Week 2, Professor Todd Coleman, leader of the Neural Interaction Lab at UCSD, provides a high level overview of recent research where the applications motivate the math, and information theory approaches are optimizing applications in medicine.

Beyond this brief introduction, more detailed insights and understandings of the research bringing information theory approaches to biomedical applications please see recent publications from the Neural Interaction Lab here: http://coleman.ucsd.edu/publications/
