  2. Join us online for a Virtual Brown Bag Research Discussion Series – Wednesday, Novebmer 18, 2015, Jia Tao and Leqi Liu “Shared Genetic Architecture in Autoimmune Disease – A preliminary Analysis.” https://www.soihub.org/event.php?id=335

  3. The fourth Biological Distributed Algorithms workshop, BDA 2016, will be held together with the annual Principles of Distributed Computing (PODC) conference in July, 2016, in Chicago. Details TBA. All members of CSoI are welcome to attend.


  1. Wojciech Szpankowski honored with Purdue’s inaugural 2015 Arden L. Bement, Jr. Award – Wojciech Szpankowski has been selected at the recipient of the inaugural 2015 Arden L. Bement Jr. Award. One of Purdue University’s top three awards for research, the Bement award recognizes distinguished research in pure and applied science and engineering. http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2015/Q3/professor-szpankowski-honored-with-purdues-inaugural-2015-arden-l.-bement-jr.-award.html He will speak on “Shannon Information Theory and Beyond” on November 9, 2015 at Purdue. https://www.soihub.org/event.php?id=334

  2. Mohsen Ghaffari, a PhD student in Nancy Lynch's group at MIT, has just won both the Best Paper and Best Student Paper awards at the 2016 ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA 2016), for his paper "An Improved Distributed Algorithm for Maximal Independent Set".
