This white paper represents a collaborative effort by the education and diversity directors of NSF Science and Technology Centers (STC). It addresses the best practices of incorporating education and diversity; forming a resource that STC's can utilize. All 14 active STCs were invited to complete the 24-question survey. Ten centers (71%) responded. The raw data was coded and key themes were identified, which were then synthesized into the best practices. Some of the listed best practices include: developing programs that encourage a diverse set of people to participate, communication, team building, providing numerous leadership opportunities to graduate students and post-docs, proper assessment of the programs ensuring the goals are met, forming strong relationships with partners and sponsors, and actively participating in STC leadership activities. Overall, various STC's will benefit greatly from this shared knowledge, and it will help them reach their goals. This paper was presented at the February 2014 STC education and diversity directors' workshop in Cleveland.
