Maxwell invented his famous demon to illustrate the subtleties of thermodynamics and his conjecture has inspired much discussion ever since, leading to Landauer's principle regarding the energy cost of memory erasure.
Technology has now reached a point where it is possible to build an electronic Maxwell's demon. Assuming no prior background, I will describe such a device and use it to examine Landauer's principle and its relevance, if any, to dissipation in modern devices.
